Varun Jeoti

Varun Jeoti, an Indian national, did his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi) in the field of acoustic wave devices (1992). While working towards his Ph.D., he worked on research projects sponsored by Department of Electronics, Government of India in Center for Applied Research (CARE), IIT Delhi as well as Center for Systems and Devices (CSD), IIT Madras.

Later he joined Delhi Institute of Technology (now called, Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology) and thereafter moved to Malaysia where he taught in Universiti Sains Malaysia and then Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. His research interest includes SAW devices, sensors, and sensor networks as well as applications of wavelets in signal processing, communication and finite element method. He has supervised students doing their Ph.D. and Masters by research in the area of MIMO-OFDM (4G – 5G applications), chaos based cryptography, reader based wireless sensor networks, and SAW sensor-tags etc.

He led the communication engineering group in the department and later the UnWireD Solutions Center in the university. He obtained various research and consultancy grants from university, government and industries like Intel and Petronas. He led the team that carried out the proof-of-concept to field testing of what is called WiDUCT Technology for PETRONAS, a Malaysian Oil and Gas Fortune 500 company. He also explored the feasibility of various other technologies including, among them, for SilTerra foundry in Malaysia, CMOS compatible SAW devices as sensors, RFID tags and filters and resonators. He has acted in advisory capacity for various start-up companies in India and in Malaysia.

As the ERA Chair in Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, he now leads a team that seeks to develop a center of excellence (CoE) in the area of stretchable and textile electronics (Strentex). The core belief of the team is to live a dream together in the spirit of voluntarism.
